Salvage-to-Sailing
Sailing, skills, stewardship
Based in Oakland, we repair sailboats, salvage equipment, and get everything into the right hands for a vibrant and accessible maritime environment.

What we do
- Reduce marine debris pollution from neglected, and abandoned boats in the Oakland Estuary
- Enhance community access to the Oakland Estuary
- Increase sailing, maritime skills, and boat ownership opportunities for women and girls
- Support our local maritime industry and businesses
Step 1
Identify vessels in need of repair and maintenance
We work with stakeholders to repair sailboats, salvage equipment, and get everything into the right hands.
Step 2
Donate, sell, and salvage responsibly
Not every vessel can be repaired. We salvage parts that can be used to keep other vessels in good repair, reducing the cost and scale of marine debris mitigation.
Step 3
Repair, maintain, and sail
Participants learn to manage, navigate, and maintain all aspects of sailboats. These skills – operating heavy machinery, troubleshooting mechanical systems, managing risks and resources, and teamwork – are the core of responsible leadership, on and off the water.
We channel all funds from sales and donations back into the program
